Rare Dodge Ram 50 Sport can be yours for $60k

Ram may be focused on heavy-duty and performance trucks these days, but it sold lightweight and sporty vehicles in the USA half a century ago. One such is up for grabs at Vanguard Motor Sales right now, with an impressive sticker of $59,900.

One of the closest relatives of the car seen here is the 1979 Mitsubishi L200 a.k.a. Triton. When it came to the United States in the late ‘70s, it was rebranded there as the Dodge D50. A couple of years later, it was once again renamed to “Ram 50”. The original pickup was strictly rear-wheel-drive, but the automaker released an AWD version called Power Ram in 1982. This is exactly what the builder behind this project started with.

Still, how do you justify the $60k sticker on an old truck? For starters, the listing claims its post-restoration condition is “better than new”. The exterior sports a fresh jade green paint job with yellow and orange stripes for a bit of visual punch and otherwise looks pristine. The bed is lined with natural wood, there is an added roll bar, and the interior appears immaculate, too. It mostly retains the original’s layout and style but benefits from a custom three-spoke steering wheel with a leather rim.

As good as the restomod looks, it still relies on its original 2.6-liter, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine for propulsion. The listing does mention improved air intake and cooling, but neglects to say whether the output is any more decent than the original’s 111 PS (109 hp / 82 kW).
