BMW and Swiss research company Bcomp have developed a potentially breakthrough material that can replace all carbon fiber in sports car offering superior resilience and longevity.
The composite is derived from flax seeds and is said to have a 40% smaller CO2 footprint than carbon fiber does. As you may have noticed, environmentalists have been increasingly critical of carbon fiber lately, complaining about its highly polluting production and threatening to regulate it. No wonder automakers are actively looking into the alternatives.
Aside from BMW, Bcomp is an official partner of Porsche and Volvo/Polestar. We wouldn’t be surprised if those companies also adopted this material in their aero kits.
