The Chinese automaker has unveiled what it claims is the world’s first racer on methanol fuel.
It’s a modified Binrui Cool sedan, like the one in the video. Working with a stock car, Geely has reinforced and widened the bodywork for extra stability on the track. It has also overhauled the suspension and made the stock 2.0-liter turbo engine output 250 PS (247 hp / 184 kW) along with 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The latter was accomplished by boosting the pressure ratio to 15:1.
Geely points out that the pure methanol produces far less C02 and hard particulate pollutants than any race car running on petrol. It says it has already passed low-temperature tests, so it's more than just a prototype.
