A new Tesla Model Y powered by enhanced Robotaxi software drove itself from the factory straight to the customer who ordered it without anyone in the cabin.
The announcement was made by CEO Elon Musk himself on his Twitter/X page. According to him, the vehicle had to maneuver its way through a variety of road situations ranging from downtown to highway. No involvement from remote operators was needed. The car arrived safely and a day ahead of the delivery schedule.
If you believe Musk, then this could have been the first completely unattended self-driving trip in human history. However, according to a fact check by Elektrek, a number of automakers in the United States alone had done this before. Not only that, but Waymo used to offer a paid service like that to general public.
