One of the listings of the next month’s Mecum auction is dedicated to a completely overhauled and restored Chevrolet Bel Air wagon. With modern suspension, a massive engine and low post-restoration mileage, it may be a pricey toy for whoever wants it.
Having dismantled the stock engine, LP Racing put an 8.2-liter V8 in its place, ensuring that it worked well with the on-board electronics. The output figures aren’t listed, but even naturally aspirated mills like this one are usually good for 609 PS (600 hp / 447 kW) or so. No wonder this wagon makes use of four-piston brake calipers and sport springs in the suspension.
It’s quite a looker, too, with a fire-themed livery and an exceptionally clean body design that even manages to omit the door handles. The shoulder line rises towards the c-pillar in a way one may describe as elegant, and retro chrome wheels in the arches turn up the vintage aura.
As for the interior, it enjoys a makeover in cream-tinted leather and brown suede with the occasional body-matching splash of orange. The car is rather conservative for a restomod, making do with modern safety harnesses, a multichannel audio system and little else. With less than 13,000 kilometers (8,000 miles) under its belt after the rebuild, it’s also in pristine condition.
