2027 Porsche Taycan ditches Touring body option, gains “gear shifts”

Porsche has facelifted its all-electric Taycan saloon for the next model year. It’s barely changed on the outside, but received steering wheel stalks for those who’d like to pretend they are rowing your own gears.

The feature is called E-Shift and is available for all Taycan variants, while the range-topping Turbo GT trim already has it included as standard. It uses electric motors to imitate driving a traditional car with an engine. To create the illusion, E-Shift can adjust torque, simulate RPM counts and redlines, and even shake the car a bit during abrupt gear changes. At the same time, a digital tachometer displays the current “RPM” number on the dash and a system called Electric Sport Sound does its best to simulate an ICE drivetrain. Should you get tired of the farce, a single button on the steering wheel will be enough to turn it off completely.

The exterior has stayed the same with the exception of new low-resistance tires that Porsche claims can extend your driving range on a full charge to 700 kilometers (435 miles). That’s the best range recorded for the Taycan EV so far. As for the wagon-shaped Touring version, Motor1 claims it is no longer in production due to lower-than-expected sales.

Inside, the multimedia hardware is all new and so is the UI. It feels much more intuitive and allows users to install numerous third-party apps from a provided online store, Porsche claims. There’s also an AI-powered voice assistant on board and a 50% faster wireless charger.

The powertrain stays the same. Prices start from €102,600 in Germany and $111,900 in the United States.
