According to Jaguar Land Rover, the all-electric Range Rover Sport crossover will reach the showrooms before the end of the year packing more acceleration potential than any of its gas-guzzling peers. Which isn’t to say that the ICE Range Rover lineup retires: petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains will continue to be available.
In the meantime, a pre-production version of the Range Rover Sport made a surprise debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Once there, the YouTube team of Electrifying had an opportunity to test-drive it and share their opinions (see the video above).
The Goodwood show example looked all but identical to the regular Range Rover Sport except for the wheels and some decals. However, the company said its final exterior design was liable to change in the final weeks before the production.
Considering all variants of this SUV in existence, the most powerful version we saw sent 635 PS (626 hp / 467 kW) to the wheels from a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. The EV may wind up with the same or similar numbers. For its own part, Land Rover promises to fine-tune its suspension and throw in a premium audio system for good measure.
Just when the EV may debut remains unannounced. The model is due a facelift soon, so we expect both to premiere sometime in the fall.
