Volkswagen unveils the ID. Polo GTI, sales due this fall

The all-electric ID. Polo hatchback that Volkswagen properly introduced in early April has now got a sportier FWD spec rocking the automaker’s familiar GTI badge. It’s slated to go on sale this autumn, with the expected starting price below €39,000.

Thanks to a superior motor at the front wheels, the hot hatch sends 226 PS (223 hp / 166 kW) there along with 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque. Reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) is a matter of 6.8 seconds, and the top speed lies at mere 175 km/h (108 mph). A fully charged 52-kWh battery pack grants up to 424 kilometers (263 miles) of range and regains most of its charge in 24 minutes.

On the outside, you can tell the sported-up ID. Polo by its aggressive aero kit, revised headlights and taillights, and the red accents typical of the GTI series. Inside, new bucket seats and paddle shifters for switching between regenerative brake modes sum up the main highlights.

Like any self-respecting GTI car, the ID. Polo GTI also enjoys certain chassis tweaks. VW mentions adaptive shocks, progressive steering and an optional set of Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires for the ultimate in grip and handling.

Meanwhile, the standard ID. Polo hatchback is coming to the showrooms in Europe any week now, priced from a low €25,000.
