Check out the elusive Porsche 928 Cabrio

Porsche has never produced a roofless model 928, but a handful of such cars still exist thanks to tuners. The Olive Green example seen here is one of the better-appointed ones, in our opinion, and it apparently found a new owner on Broad Arrow Auctions earlier this week. The winning bid isn’t specified, but estimated placed it somewhere between $60,000 and $80,000.

The conversion was carried out by Richard Straman in his coachbuilding shop in California in the early 1990s. The sports car lost its roof and received a folding top designed to disappear seamlessly into the rear end when not in use. While at it, the company also swapped out the round OEM headlamps for some rectangular lights.

In turn, the interior ended up with a full overhaul in Terracotta-colored leather. Soft beige mats lined the floor sections, while the dash trim and the steering wheel seemingly stayed intact.

The listing says that the 4.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 under the hood was left to produce its original 237 PS (234 hp / 174 kW) in tandem with a three-speed automatic transmission. In this respect, the American Porsche 928 lagged considerably behind its European cousin rated at 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW).

Check out the video for a glimpse of another, similar 928 Cabrio build from a different tuner.
