Exotic, Pininfarina-styled Ferrari 550 Barchetta crops up for sale

London-based seller DD Classics is offering a rare 2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina for sale with less than 8,000 km (5,000 miles) under its belt. The car was made to celebrate 70 years of partnership between Ferrari and Pininfarina, and enjoyed a limited production run of 448 units.

The Italian coachbuilder chopped the roof and put a removable soft top in its place. In order to reduce drag as much as possible, the company redesigned the a-pillars and reshaped the rear end, which then necessitated adding twin roll bars behind the seats to keep the body rigid. These bars were trimmed with carbon fiber for a more modern look.

According to the listing, this particular convertible started its life in a Ferrari Rosso Corsa body, but was later resprayed in a yellow shade known as Giallo Fly. The color change was carried out by an authorized dealership, so it can be considered a unique feature.

Like 25 years ago, the 550 Barchetta still relies on its stock 5.5-liter V12 engine and six-speed manual transmission to drive the wheels with 478 PS (471 hp / 352 kW). The manufacturer-rated top speed is 300 km/h (186 mph), but Pininfarina warns that the soft top must be removed when going beyond 110 km/h (68 mph).

The car’s only owner had it outfitted with a Koenig Specials exhaust system featuring six finisher tips grouped by three at either side of the rear end, and that seems to be the only aftermarket modification on the list.

All pricing details are upon request only, DD Classics says.
