The next generation of the BMW X5 will be fully revealed tomorrow, June 30th, the company says. In the meantime, let’s take a look at this teaser pic and some leaked pre-production car shots.
The Bavarian automaker insists that the new X5 follows in the tire tracks of the first generation – the E53 (see video). Despite sporting a Neue Klasse exterior, it retains its predecessor’s platform.
When we first heard about it, we assumed that the SUV could wind up with a more conservative, less experimental design than the rest of the Neue Klasse lineup. It’s fair to say now that those expectations haven’t panned out. With its illuminated dual-nostril grille, tacky X-shaped DRLs and bold, masculine body outlines, the new X5 resembles the all-electric BMW iX3 more than it does its own predecessor.
All powertrain details should become available tomorrow, so stay tuned. BMW promises us as many as five powertrain types, ranging from ICE through hybrid to all-electric and even hydrogen.
