A particularly well-protected Lexus LX 700 just debuted in Miami. Built by Miami Armored in cooperation with Canadian armored vehicle specialist Inkas, it can withstand sustained AK-47 fire and shrug off a simultaneous explosion of two hand grenades underneath.
In addition to cladding every single body panel with ballistic armor, the company installed thick ballistic glass all around and took extra care to reinforce the fuel tank, the battery and the engine bay. All plating was applied with an overlap between panels to rule out any stray bullets entering the seams.
Run-flat tires were also installed, and an emergency hatch was built into the roof to enable evacuation. Equipment-wise, Miami Armored offers night vision cameras, blinking lights, sirens and loudspeakers along with other typical armored vehicle options.
This particular LX 700 was allowed to keep its 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 under the hood, electrified to deliver 463 PS (457 hp / 341 kW) and 790 Nm (583 lb-ft) of torque. We’d imagine the luxury SUV being a little slower off the line because of this, but probably not by much.
The pricing details were likewise omitted, but Inkas delivers its custom Lexus builds in the general range of U.S. $200,000–300,000. Of course, prices vary a lot based on your requirements and preferences.
