Singer Vehicle Design – a Porsche restoration specialist so renowned it doesn’t really require an introduction at this point – has unveiled its latest take on the Porsche 911 (964). Unlike the coupe from a few months ago, it is convertible-shaped and packs a Cosworth flat-six in a gorgeous body.
While otherwise typical for a Singer restomod, the exterior nonetheless manages to have one standout detail: pop-up fog lamps. They look a bit odd standing next to the car’s fixed headlights, but do lend it a unique touch. The body kit is largely made of carbon fiber and makes the ride height seem lower than it is with the help of aprons and side skirts. The rear end can be optioned with a large ducktail wing or a modest spoiler. To minimize weight, the exhaust system is fabricated from titanium alloy and the brakes are carbon-ceramic.
The interior stays true to the spirit of the 964 while taking advantage of new materials and equipment. The list mentions carbon-backed bucket seats, bespoke dash gauges and a new steering wheel, among other things. Customers are invited to pick their favorite trim materials and colors, as usual.
A naturally aspirated flat-plane six-cylinder engine built by Cosworth drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Working with 4.0 liters of displacement, it delivers 420 PS (414 hp / 309 kW) to the rear end – 60 horsepower more than the best Carrera of the early ‘90s could ever extract from its 3.6 liters of displacement. It also revs up to a thrilling 8,000 revolutions per minute.
