VinFast, a Vietnamese automaker who wanted to conquer the United States with its affordable electric vehicles, has now turned its attention to the upper luxury segment of the market with a new sub-brand, Lac Hong. The 800S SUV and 900S sedan pictured here are supposed to become its first production vehicles.
Compared to the admittedly rather pedestrian VinFast EVs that barely sell in the US, these two flaunt chrome details, unique headlights and taillights, and radiator grilles that look like they could belong on a Rolls-Royce. The interiors are wrapped in fine leather and decorated with natural gold, but eschew physical buttons in favor of digital screens for some reason. The sedan in particular looks like a chauffeured vehicle with its optional partition between the two seat rows.
On the technical side of things, the automaker promises us soft adaptive suspension and a trio of electric motors jointly capable of 625 PS (616 hp / 460 kW). Both models are slated for launch in Vietnam in 2027, and it remains unknown whether they will ever make it overseas.
It’s worth pointing out here that VinFast has had a rough first few years in the US. Year-on-year sales plummeted by 57% in 2025, with the company selling fewer than 1,500 vehicles in January–September. It also had to backpedal on its plans for a dealership network. Out of the 125 dealerships it had intended to open before the end of 2024, only 22 went online. According to recent communications from VinFast, it doesn’t see any point in opening more in the current market situation, tariffs and all.
