Alpina’s first project under BMW is a chunky luxury coupe with a V8

After its acquisition by BMW last year, Alpina hasn’t told us much about its plans going forward. There were promises of “speed, comfort and refinement”, but nothing specific. Well, here comes its first design study under BMW: a gas-powered coupe with an opulent four-seat cabin.

It’s unclear whether the company used any particular BMW chassis as the starting point for the project. The exterior looks modern, clean and overall in line with what we’ve come to expect from the Bavarian automaker these past few years. Alpina’s signature touches include multi-spoke wheels sized 22” large at the front and 23” at the rear, and assorted badging. The body is 5.2 meters (204.7 inches) long.

A peek inside reveals a luxury interior trimmed with pastel-hued leather and largely outfitted with BMW-sourced equipment. A raised console in the back row separates the seats, while a giant glass panoramic roof emphasizes the sense of luxury.

Power for the show car comes from an unspecified V8 – no mention of any electrification or output numbers. Alpina does mention that custom drive presets, like its traditional Comfort+ preset, deliver the same experience that its customers have come to expect over the decades.

What remains unclear is whether the Vision BMW Alpina will ever reach production or not. Right now, it looks like a typical design study with no market future.
