BYD Denza Z launched with a massive price gap between UK and China

At home in China, the 1,604-PS (1,582-hp / 1,180-kW) electric hypercar known as the BYD Denza Z starts from the equivalent of 100,000 USD, whereas its Britain-bound counterpart starts just under 200,000 USD.

In more specific figures, customers in China get three trim levels to choose from, the most affordable one going for 680,000 Yuan. That’s roughly equivalent to $100,300. The UK version with the same power and torque and largely the same trim starts from a cool £142,900, which translates to $191,500.

Packing a single front e-motor and two rear e-motors driving one wheel each, the Denza Z needs less than two seconds to snap off the line and hit 100 km/h (62 mph). Its manufacturer-rated top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph) is also impressive for an EV. A 76-kWh next-generation battery pack allows it to cover 600 kilometers (373 miles) per charge, WLTP-rated.

The car itself weighs 2,250 kilograms (4,960 lbs). Opting for a Racing version of it adds a giant front splitter and a similarly sized carbon-fiber rear wing said to generate up to 2,000 kilograms (4,409 lbs) of downforce at higher accelerations. Aside from the standard coupe version, a roadster is available in both countries.
