Renault 5 EV tries on a rally suit from the ‘80s

Milltek, a UK-based aftermarket vendor best known for its performance exhaust solutions, has come up with a body kit for the Renault 5 E-Tech that makes it look like the famous Renault Maxi R5 Turbo dating back to 1985. You can already preorder it from £2,000.

The package includes flared fenders, front bumper and rear door trims, side skirts, and a larger version of the standard rear spoiler. All parts are mounted on OEM mounting points, meaning they can be removed at any time without any permanent damage to the car, Milltek claims.

When it arrived in 1985, the rally-focused Renault Maxi R5 Turbo packed a 1.6-liter transaxle four-banger tuned to deliver up to 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW) to the wheels depending on the modification. Only 20 examples were made.

Unlike that car, the modern Renault 5 E-Tech only sends between 96 and 152 metric horsepower to the wheels (95–150 hp; 70–112 kW, respectively). It’s also not particularly fast for an all-electric car, taking around eight seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from zero.
