BMW Unveils Gas-Powered 3-Series Models

BMW has unveiled the combustion engine versions of its 3-Series, six months after the all-electric i3. The gas-powered 3-Series models, including the 330, 330 xDrive, and M350 xDrive, are expected to go on sale in the US in the first quarter of 2027.

The gas-powered 3-Series shares a similar appearance with the i3, though with some distinctions. The M350 xDrive, which replaces the M340i xDrive, features darkened and slightly wider kidney grilles, more prominent lower bumper and air intakes, a slightly longer and lower hood, and tweaked rear side window shapes compared to the i3. The M350 xDrive also includes black wing mirrors, unique badging, and a rear design with darkened LED taillights, a diffuser, and quad tailpipes.

These new 3-Series variants utilize an updated version of the outgoing model’s CLAR platform. The 330, 330 xDrive, and M350 xDrive models measure 187.2 inches long, 72.8 inches wide, and 57.3 inches tall. In contrast, the i3 50 xDrive, based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, is 187.4 inches long, 73.4 inches wide, and 58.3 inches tall.

Despite using an older platform, the gas-powered 3-Series incorporates interior upgrades found in BMW’s Neue Klasse-based EVs. This includes a steering wheel with touchpad controllers and paddle shifters, a 17.9-inch infotainment display, and the Panoramic iDrive system. The interior also features new dashboard materials, fabric, and lighting. New seats are standard, with optional multifunction seats available for additional adjustments. The M350 xDrive is equipped with special M Sport seats.
