The first photos of the upcoming Volkswagen ID.Era 5S for China have surfaced online. It’s still unclear whether the model will be offered outside of the Chinese domestic market.
Based on the Ministry of Industry patent images, the car has a fairly laconic interior design with a large multimedia tablet in the middle, a two-spoke steering wheel and a relatively small digital dash screen. The transmission selector is fashioned as a steering wheel stalk, freeing the space on the tunnel for two cup holders and a wireless phone charger.
As for the exterior, the relevant images were posted online in late May. The spec sheet says the ID.Era 5S measures 4,836 x 1,880 x 1,505 millimeters large with 2,766 millimeters between the axles. Supported wheel diameters are 17, 18, and 19 inches.
For propulsion, the latest entry on the Volkswagen ID.Era lineup will rely on a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine and a single electric motor. The former will deliver 109 PS (108 hp / 80 kW) and the latter 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW). Manufacturer-estimated driving ranges are 160 kilometers (100 miles) in all-electric mode and around 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles) in hybrid mode.
