A truly one-off Bugatti EB110 gears up for auction

Mecum Auctions will be bringing a rather exotic Bugatti supercar to the Monterey Car Week in mid-August. When the French marque went insolvent around three decades ago, it still had spare parts for several more EB110 units lying around. German company Dauer Sportwagen bought these out and used them to build five coupes, one of them with a carbon-fiber exterior. It’s the one that’s heading to Monterey next month.

Although the so-called “EB110 by Dauer” isn’t considered a true Bugatti vehicle, the company behind it insists that it’s well worth the title – and even surpasses the original in several aspects. For one, its lighter construction allows it to weigh whopping 227 kilos (500 pounds) less than the vanilla EB110. For another, it retains the original’s 3.5-liter V12 while bolstering its output to 705 PS (695 hp / 519 kW). That’s a healthy improvement over the stock mill’s 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW).

Mecum understandably hesitates to put a price estimate on the lot, but another low-mileage Bugatti EB110 salvaged from one of the company’s defunct facilities after spending decades just sitting there went for $1,870,000 not long ago. With that one in mind, we suppose the Dauer version has what it takes to bring home $2,000,000 or more.
