New Galaxy Cruiser 700 packs same power as a supercar at double the weight

At the Auto China show in April, Geely unveiled its large and ambitious SUV named the Galaxy Cruiser (see video). It’s now official that the model gets a variant called Cruiser 700 with 1,128 PS (1,113 hp / 830 kW) heading to the wheels. Sales in China will begin before the end of the year.

There are still no full specifications of the powertrain. All we know is that the SUV is a hybrid that combined an IC engine with multiple e-motors. Equipped like this, the Galaxy Cruiser can be driven sideways in Crab Mode and even cross shallow water bodies in Amphibious Mode. With a curb weight as high as 2,880 kilograms (6,350 lbs), we wouldn’t expect it to be capable of any track feats, though.

On the outside, the Galaxy Cruiser 700 cuts a boxy profile with a rugged bare-plastic body kit all around and a rather fresh front end design featuring an illuminated Geely emblem. It also carries a spare wheel on the tailgate and has a LiDAR above the windshield, which is a part of the vehicle’s G-Pilot H7 ADAS.

Aside from China, the Cruiser 700 is slated for launch in Europe, but all dates and prices remain to be announced.
