Range-topping Mercedes-AMG GT flashes camo on the ‘Ring

Mercedes-Benz has posted the first photos of its upcoming mass-market supercar, the AMG GT Track Sport. It’s still being referred to as a concept, even though the company has been testing it on the Nürburgring for weeks now.

The coupe is depicted in a black-and-white wrap with colorful accents that the automaker argues are supposed to “highlight its sporty image.” Looking closer reveals a long hood with an air intake on top, a large front splitter and a downright gargantuan rear wing. Despite the extreme aero attachments and the overall racing vibe that the car gives off, it is being described simply as a “V8 supercar”, which sounds street-legal.

The official description from Mercedes also points out that the biggest emphasis in the development of the AMG GT Track Sport was made on a sharp and dynamic driving experience. As well, the company made an effort to devise an “intelligent lightweight construction” for the car, as well as to endow it with powertrain specifications “pushing the physical limits”. The specifics remain undisclosed.

Once it is out and about, the Track Sport will reside at the pinnacle of the AMG GT lineup (see video). Sounds like we could be looking at an ideological successor to the Black Series.

The hybrid AMG GT 63 S E Performance is the current flagship of the lineup. It combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a single electric motor for 816 PS (805 hp / 600 kW) and 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft) of torque heading to the four wheels. The biggest question right now is whether the Track Sport is electrified at all.
